Darwin and Domains!

The evolution of the internet really is the ‘survival of the fittest’

As you may have seen on the news, internet crime is on the rise. Despite the US ICE recently removing 839 imitation websites for selling counterfeit products and the Ukrainian authorities seizing the world’s largest illegal music sharing site (Demonoid), recent figures suggest companies need to adapt.

Let’s take a look at this. We recently saw, credit checking firm, Experian, reveal figures suggesting online fraudsters have exchanged as much as 12 million items of personal information only in the first quarter of 2012. That’s a 300% increase since 2010! You can read about this here: http://www.computerweekly.com/news/2240159690/Online-identity-theft-is-up-300-on-2010-warns-Experian.

This rise in online crime combined with the new opportunities for cybersquatting, typosquatting etc from the latest GTLD project is presenting an opportunity for disaster!

We fear that many organizations including IT companies will be swept away by the change. To give you an example, Melbourne IT has recently issued a report to ICANN asking them to please change the way top level domains will be available as companies will be at risk of cybersquatting etc. Does this therefore imply that even a top IT company is not ready for the change? Why would they request that ICANN change the process unless they themselves did not have a way of dealing with it?

Well here at Frank Domains, we are ready!... for both the change in GTLD’s and the rise in online crime! Our key fob system gives you extra protection and we have also started putting together a domain protection strategy to ensure your company is safe. In fact, a domain blogger has picked up on our latest project. Read about it here: http://www.domainensure.com/blog/key-fob-domain-name-password-security.

Let us know your thoughts of how your company will evolve for this change!
